Presenting.... Estrella!

Here are the long awaited pictures of my new kayak! I was so excited to get her - it was driven down here from Ohio by Kris' mom & it is now being stored at Kris' sisters until camp! It is a beautiful boat & I named her "Estrella", which is Spanish for "Star". I even launched it and tried it out in Thessalon just to see how she maneuvered & it's much more tippy than the wide, cheap kayak I am used to paddling but I will get used to it! I bought the kayak with graduation money I received from my dad three years ago when I finished at George Brown College. So, saving it was worth wile because I got a good bargain from http://www.sierratradingpost.com and now I finally see the fruits of all the hard work I did in college! (I might not have a job, but at least I have a kayak!) :o)

Something Smells Like.....

Tonight I was confronted by a woman outback of my apartment. She said "do you have a bag for your dog's poop?" and I said I did. Then she said "yah right, let me see it!" and I was just thinking ... "what in the world is this lady doing? who does she think she is to accost me and make me show her my poop bag??" So I just stood there looking at her with disgust and and she said "it's people like you that ruin it for the rest of us!" and then I told her she didn't know the facts. I asked her how long she had been living here and she said "five years!!" and I said "and how often have you seen me before?" (I've never seen this lady before) and she just made a noise and said "you usually go out front with your little pooch don't you?" and I said "no" and then she just said something else rude and went inside....

I just had to blog about it because it is these moments in life that I can't believe. I don't understand how someone could have the gall to talk to a total stranger like that and accuse them of something that they know nothing about. Whether or not I pick up my dog's shit isn't even the issue... I mean - in order for me to talk to another human being in the regard she did they would have had to have stolen my wallet or something... well... probably even more than that because a guy did try to steal my wallet once and I just said "hey!" really loud and gave him a disgusted look....

Anyway, it's people that act in such a self-righteous manner that are the ugly people in this world.

My New Kayak

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! Do you know how LONG i've wanted a kayak for?!? And I finally found the one that I really wanted online at Sierra Trading Post (if you have never checked out this website outlet before, you should -it's great! http://www.sierratradingpost.com ).

I purchased the Sonoma Touring Kayak by Perception. Retails for about $1300 USD but I got it for $835 USD - woot woot! There is $100 shipping fee and they only ship within the US so I got them to deliver it to my mother-in-law who lives in Ohio. She is bringing it up at the end of the month when she comes to visit! I actually used the graduation money my dad gave me a few years ago to buy the kayak - I'd been saving it for the right thing! I can't believe I saved it that long....

The picture below is of the same kayak, except mine is red & white. I would have totally gone for the lime green (i've actually never seen this colour on a kayak before and it is one of my favourite colours!) but they only had yellow and red to start and by the time I decided to order it they only had red left. That's okay though - it's still super sexy! I actually got the last one they had off of the website so I was stoked! Can't wait to paddle the waters of Dog Lake this summer at MWA and Lake Superior on my time off.

Pettunia

This is my new bunn-o, Pettunia! She is pretty cute. My last bunny, Fennel, was a lop earred and a boy whereas this one is a girl so we have a lot less problems with her "humping" the other animals in the house (which she doesn't do at all) & spraying urine! I got her from the shelter here whereas Fennel was from a pet store that I will no longer support anymore because he was sick when we purchased him and I just liked him too much to bring him back. For anyone in the Sault, that pet store is Animalia in case you were interested. Don't buy your rabbits there! Fennel was also grey just like Pettunia.

Who Would Have Thought?

That I would miss the Dominican Republic as much as I do right now, in this moment. Lately I have had a subtle longing to return, and it only seems to keep growing. Maybe someday we will be able to return - I would love to learn more of the language, become more acquainted with their customs and traditions, and spend more time lazing away on the many beaches that were too beautiful to think that I have actually put footprints there.

I have been to many of the places in these photo's below that I found on the internet... the Caribbean will forever be a part of my heart.
